Sarah Josephina Hicks

Feb. 9, 1987 — Oct. 11, 2007

Mi-Wuk Village resident Sarah Josephina Hicks died in an auto accident Oct. 11 on Highway 120 near Lover's Leap. She was 20.

Ms. Hicks was born in Natchitoches, La., and had lived in Mi-Wuk Village for over 18 years. She was an independent business owner. She recently climbed Half Dome in Yosemite National Park with her brother, Daniel. She played the piano on Sundays at care homes and was a volunteer at Sonora Regional Medical Center for two years. She donated blood regularly and was religious. She also loved to travel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Eldred Hicks Jr. and Joan Elaine Hicks, in 1988.

She is survived by her grandparents and guardians who raised her, Virgil Eldred Hicks and Evelyn Fern Hicks; brothers Timothy Eldred and Daniel Elias Hicks; adoptive parents, Keith Applequist-Nelson and Beth Hicks-Nelson; adoptive siblings, Phillip, Ross, Laryssa, Kassandra, Keith and Kaleb; aunts and uncles Bruce and Gwen Swenson, Doug and Marlous Hicks, Judy Leguillon, Chuck and Doreen Fletcher and Don and Penny Carlson; nieces and nephews Jesse Hicks and Adreanna Hicks; cousins Heather, Kayla and Hollie Swenson, David, Shane and Christie Hicks, Jasmine Hicks, Mitch Fletcher, Aric and Dana Carlson, and Dagmar, Rene Vanessa and Ben Leguillon; and grandparents Alvin Carlson and Beta Carlson.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Old Brethren Church, 19220 Cherokee Road, Tuolumne.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made for Bibles to be given in her honor to the Gideon's International, P.O. Box 7, Sonora, CA 95370.

Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
