Israeli soldiers accused of war crimes in the Gaza Strip will be given state protection from prosecution overseas

Rights groups say white phosphorus shells were fired into built-up areas of Gaza Any Israeli soldiers accused of war crimes in the Gaza Strip will be given state protection from prosecution overseas, the country's PM has said. Ehud Olmert said troops should know Israel would keep them safe after they acted to protect their country. Palestinians say 1,300 people died during the offensive, and UN officials want independent probes into whether war crimes were committed. Meanwhile, a Hamas delegation is in Egypt for talks on cementing a truce. Israel ended its military operation in Gaza on 18 January, and Hamas declared a ceasefire hours later. No formal framework for a lasting ceasefire has yet been agreed. While Israel says it requires Hamas to end weapons smuggling into Gaza and rocket attacks on Israel, Hamas has demanded that Israel lift its economic blockade of the territory. In Gaza, Hamas has begun handing out cash to people who had their homes destroyed, or lost relatives. Hamas insists it will make payments based on the scale of each person's loss, not on their political affiliation. But the BBC's Aleem Maqbool, in Gaza, says there are those who will simply see this as a way of buying support. Soldiers 'safe' In Israel, Prime Minister Olmert told a weekly cabinet meeting that soldiers who had put their lives on the line for their country need not fear prosecution for war crimes overseas. "The commanders and soldiers that were sent on the task in Gaza should know that they are safe from any tribunal and that the State of Israel will assist them in this issue and protect them as they protected us with their bodies during the military operation in Gaza," he said. Truce talks In Cairo, delegates from Hamas met Egyptian intelligence officials on Sunday as they sought to bolster the week-long calm in Gaza. Israel and Egypt tightened their blockade of Gaza when Hamas seized control of the territory in mid-2007.

They say the Palestinian children are harmed by the Israeli attacks. What they don't say is how many Jewish children were harmed/scarred by the constant unprovoked attacks by Hamas Rockets. No I'm not Jewish, just someone who thinks logically . No Rockets = No War. Didn't the Israelis used to live peacefully with the Palestinians until radicals started their shenanigans?

The Palestinians live in a detention center controlled by everyone around them. No military. Which completely negates Israel's assinine excuse for BURNING THE SKIN TO THE BONE of Palestinians by using white phosphorus, if there is no military to "create a battlefield" in then they are simply murdering civilians.

Israel has never lived peacefully. They are perpetual victims since the beginning of time. Squeezing sympathy with coercion from the rest of the world. THEY ARE NAZIS NOW...

The Hamas needs to go away. They have been rocketing Israel. Israel has every right to protect themselves. The news even said that Israel dropped leaflets telling people to get out. Hamas was shooting rockets from schools and homes knowing Israel doesn't want to kill the cilvilians.But if you don't let your people leave or if they chose not to leave then people are going to get killed. No one likes war but you have to protect your people.

The state of Israel is killing innocent women and children in the name of self defense. Israel has been bombing homes, places of worship, schools and UN facilities. They have used white phosphorus against civilian targets. This is state sponsored terrorism.

One should know that the humiliation and killings of the Palestinians did not start and stop with the Gaza Genocide. It continues in the West Bank and will continue in Gaza, once the world has forgotten this conflict again. I think many people have lost any sympathy they may have had with the Nazi holocaust victims. These same people and their children are committing the worst crimes since world war II.
